MEMORIAL CHIGNOLI: Milan and Cimiano lift the trophy, great public success. The fundraising is also very good.
The third edition of the Memorial “Franco Chignoli” has ended, a tournament with charitable purposes reserved for the Pulcini category and sponsored by the FIGC.
Great success with the public and excellent response in terms of fundraising, the heart of the initiative: the total donations were 17,500 euros, well above the threshold of 15 thousand initially set as a goal by the organizers.
Organized by Olivier Chignoli (president of the Milan Club Cernobbio and creator of the event in memory of his father) and Gianluca Zambrotta, the tournament was held on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May at the Eracle sports center in Casnate con Bernate. 16 teams participated: 8 amateurs and as many professionals.
The funds raised will be donated to five associations operating in the field of research, volunteering and promotion of inclusive physical activity:
– Azzurrini Academy (azzurrini.academy), a project to introduce football and inclusive physical activity;
– SOStegno 70 (sostegno70.org), a volunteer organization dedicated to the fight against diabetes in children;
– Comitato Maria Letizia Verga (comitatomarialetiziaverga.it), for the study and treatment of leukemia in children;
– Hôpital Pitié Salpêtrière (pitiesalpetriere.aphp.fr), the hospital that treated Franco Chignoli;
– Associazione Giacomo Sintini (www.associazionegiacomosintini.it), fundraising for research into leukemia and lymphoma and assistance in the onco-hematological field.
As for the winners of the tournament, Milan won the trophy in the professional category (Pulcini 2013). The Rossoneri beat Atalanta in the final and thus rose to two victories in the tournament’s roll of honor (the defending champion was Juventus). Juventus placed third. Cimiano instead won the trophy in the amateur category (Pulcini 2012), having the better of Luciano Manara. Aldini placed third.
As in past editions, there were many representatives of the world of football present at the tournament: Pietro Vierchowod, Filippo Galli, Simone Braglia and Chicco Evani as former footballers. Journalists Luca Serafini and Maria Chiara Rossi (the latter official speaker of the event), as well as former volleyball player Giacomo Sintini.
